Hi!
Hiya,
My name is Ali Heiss, and I am currently on an adventure.
My last name is Heiss, which is German. I gained this moniker when my foster parents adopted me. I am adopted, and my Korean name is Hyori Munae Choi, and just this year I have embraced it.
I have so much to talk about, I have so much to share, but finding my voice over the past decade is truly akin to finding a needle in a haystack. Reaching the point to open up my thoughts, feelings and experiences are difficult.
I don’t regard my experiences more special than the next Korean adoptee. I realize we have strong numbers, but few voices - I hope my humble story is a guide to promote others to share theirs.
It is really hard to even write this, but I will slowly be adding to my blog. I plan to talk about my adoption story, my views on adoption, my views on white Americans adopting BIPOC children around the world. I plan to share my experiences with my personal trauma, learning to call it trauma(!), abuse, being an adoptee who meets her natural born family, and also navigating running a business during this in her 20’s.
There is much to unpack.
I will be treating this blog as a diary, a confident, and a means to keep my manifestations in check. I will be visiting Korea soon to connect with potential family, and I want to be clear minded as possible.
Thank you for checking in,
love,
Ali
